We missed National Mai Tai Day?

June 30th was officially National Mai Tai Day and somehow we missed it.  We are big fans of mai tais, and after our last trip to Hawaii, we spent weeks perfecting two ultimate cocktails.  The first is a take on an old traditional Trader Vic’s recipe we found online and the second was a tweak to a drink we had this past Valentine’s Day at the St. Regis Princeville Resort on Kauai.

Traditional  Mai Tai

Fill cup with ice
1 shot light rum (Cruzan)
1 shot amber rum (Mount Gay)
1/4 shot orgeat (we’ve tried to cut calories by using sugar free almond syrup)
1 shot lime juice (we’ve since bought a lime/lemon juicer)
1/2 shot Cointreau
Mix well and then add 1/2 shot of dark rum (Goslings) as a floater
